Hailed by Michael Tilson Thomas as "an excellent violinist," Tomas Cotik (www.tomascotik.com) is internationally recognized as a soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, and teacher. Tomas was a first-prize winner at the National Broadcast Music Competition in his native Argentina in 1997, and the winner of the Government of Canada Award for 2003-2005. A former rotating concertmaster of the New World Symphony, and first violinist of the Harrington String Quartet, Tomas Cotik earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Miami. He also holds a Bachelor and Master in Music from the Freiburg University of Music in Germany and an Artist Diploma from the Glenn Gould School in Toronto. During his studies he undertook research into Piazzollaʼs and Schubert’s music. Mr. Cotik‘s recording of Franz Schubert’s complete works for violin and piano was released by Centaur Records to rave reviews and was broadcast all over the country by American Public Media. Other recent discography includes an album of music by Astor Piazzolla for violin and piano and recordings as a member of the Delray String Quartet. Tomas Cotik is currently working on a recording of Mozart’s complete sonatas for violin and piano with pianist Tao Lin. He has performed with several internationally prominent conductors such as Michael Tilson Thomas, Valery Gergiev, Roberto Abbado, Yakov Kreizberg, Marin Alsop, Stephan Deneve, Roger Norrington and Robert Spano at important venues including Carnegie Hall. He has also participated in extensive chamber music collaborations and worked closely with renowned musicians including members of the Cleveland, Miami, Pro Arte, Bergonzi, Vogler, Vermeer, Tokyo and Endellion String Quartets. Tomas Cotik is represented by Lisa Sapinkopf Artist Management.
